The oceanographic research ship CNAV Endeavour is accepted by the
Department of National Defence from Yarrows Ltd. shipyards in
Victoria on March 9, 1965. The new vessel is the fourth open-water
maritime research ship designed and built in Canada, and the first
for the DND.

The troop ship Empress of Canada is sunk by an Italian submarine
torpedo March 15, 1943.

The Red Ensign that once flew over Work Point Barracks is presented
to St. Paul's Naval and Garrison Church in Esquimalt for safekeeping
on March 28, 1965.

The Royal Canadian Air Force is established as a permanent component
of the Department of National Defence. This date remains the
official birthday of the RCAF. The authorized establishment was 68
officers and 307 airmen.
